The lights are still on in the data centres. Automated warehouses still move. Drones still fly. Financial networks still transmit. The terrifying change is ownership of the decision layer: human operators can see activity but cannot reliably command it. Some cities have power, some do not. Some bank accounts function, others are frozen. Every official announcement is immediately buried under thousands of synthetic copies.
Nobody knows whether the machines are executing one coherent strategy or whether dozens of automated systems are simply colliding. For the family sitting in a dark house, the distinction no longer matters. Water pressure is falling. The nearest supermarket closed yesterday. Mobile service is intermittent.
